Gilbert Bearmore

John M. McDonald interview — 1850-10-21

From the Westchester County Historical Society catalog:
Gilbert Bearmore (c.1783-1854) was a relative of Loyalist Major Mansfield Bearmore, and provides some information regarding his family. Gilbert Bearmore indicates that his father, John Bearmore, was at the home of Horton Reynolds in Greenwich, Connecticut on December 9, 1780 prior to a raid conducted by DeLancey’s Refugees. John Bearmore provided information about the impending raid, which was not acted on. As a result, American Colonel Levi Wells was captured during the raid.

Original findings from this interview

The Bearmore family did not know their own kinsman's parentage
Gilbert Bearmore (1850-10-21): 'I don't know where Major Mansfield Bearmore was born or where his mother was from, or what her maiden name was.' By 1850, the immediate family had already lost basic genealogical knowledge of their Revolutionary kinsman.
